Title: Note.rtf examples and ideas
Post by: davhuit on September 09, 2013, 12:58:47 AM
If some peoples want to share their creations or ask/give some ideas, I think a thread is a good idea so here's one, with two files I just created (I'll post some others later).

I advice you to edit the texts of those RTF files with WordPad (you can easily edit the text content, adding lines, modifying the text size, etc...).

If you need to add lines to the spreadsheet, use Word (Wordpad can't do it).

Updated the first message with a lot of other systems.

I might rework the images later but for now, I'm keeping a white background because the tests I done to remove it (transparency) didn't gave me very good results.

And once I'll be done with all the systems I used, I'll put a single archive with everything in it.

1. Your welcome, I try to give back where I can..

2. Well right now I don't have a cabinet, I wish I did!! My wife wont let me right now due to financial reasons :(. So I have a "mini-cade" for all my EMU gaming. It's basicly an old NES converted to a PC, just to run EMUs.

Here is a link to a slide-show of my setup. I have two controllers for use with it. A Xbox 360 corded controller (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81RWJnjN24L._SL1500_.jpg) and a MK fight stick (http://game-preorders.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/mortal-kombat-tournament-edition.jpg). Depending what I am playing, I choose the controller..

http://s10.photobucket.com/user/graphicsgod/slideshow/NES%20HTPC%20Project (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/graphicsgod/slideshow/NES%20HTPC%20Project)

The controls you see for the MAME EMU, is to cover mostly everything you would see on a REAL cabinet and then converted over to Xbox 360 controls. I don't have a steering wheel setup or anything like that. Just those two controllers for gaming.

3. As far as Light gun, I'm working on that...

There are options you can buy (http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMS-Top-Gun-3-dual-pack-for-PC-MAME-PS2-PS3-XBOX-compatible-w-ALL-displays-/331011240303?pt=US_Video_Game_Controllers&hash=item4d11ceb16f), but will set you back $100+, and they sadly don't sell them anymore for PCs. The other option, which I hope to do next, is to take an old NES Zapper and stick a Wii-mote into it and make it work with the PC. Since there are programs to make the Wii-mote replace your mouse. So it would be basically like clicking on the guys on the screen, but have the same feeling as a light gun. If that makes sense..

Yep, I can't recover the same feeling than the nes lightgun ATM. Take a look here http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=349.msg1097#msg1097 (http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=349.msg1097#msg1097) use a wiimote work nice but it s not the same, lightgun don't work on lcd display without a vgabox but this system isn't developped. 90% of the lightgun system are the same than the wiimote atm.

Your "minicade" is terrific ^^. I love this kind of modding.

Sorry if you downloaded the old link, but I just noticed a few errors and I fixed them. Should be better this time.

As for the Lightgun, it will work fine as long as you have an infrared light source. You can purchase one that works for the Wii that is cordless and just uses batteries. Which will allow you to use the Wii-mote on any video source, just like you would a Wii.

I have done this already with a Wii EMU. The EMU works great if you have a REALLY good PC!! Otherwise it will be too slow. So on my gaming desktop it works fine. But my mini PC, not so much. I also wish my Saturn EMU ran better as well, but that's more of an issue of the EMU than hardware. Since it acts just as bad on my gaming PC. But that's neither here nor there..

Wich one saturn emu are you using ?

With glovepie you can use wiimote with all other system, I use it with mame ATM (duck hunt from nes), but for me with infraRed it s not the same feeling. You need a crosshair to play because it s not 100% accurate.

I'm using Yabause, which I believe is the only one supported by the Mgalaxy. I have tried others and they all run like shit as well :(. Which is confusing no one has created a better EMU for Saturn.. If you know of one that runs as good as the Playstation 1 EMUs, please let me know!!

Yeah I have used "Glovepie". So far I haven't tried the Wii-mote on anything other than the Wii EMU. Maybe if I do the "Zapper Mod", I might set it up for other systems! I wish the Saturn EMU worked better, since it had all the best "shooter games".

mGalaxy can work with all emulators even this one that don't have command line (but it s harder ^^)

Try SSF for sega saturn, you need to install daemontool little (not the full version) first because it don't work with image, but it s really better than yabause. I have a 6 month old computer and Yabause still don't work at full speed in opengl mode (Have you tried in the software mode ?)

Yabause have better quality image in openGL mode (but too much graphic glitch), SFF work only with native saturn resolution.

To make SSF work with mGalaxy use this script  http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=436.0 (http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=436.0)

There is satourne too, but no comparaison possible with SFF.

I haven't tried the wiimote with saturn yet, ATM I m adapting the Amstrad system (computer system :( )for mGalaxy, but my next objective is making wiimote working for atomicwave system.

SSF is decent, but the fact it has to be "tricked" into running ISOs, and it constantly crashes (the longest I got it to run without crashing is 20 min.) makes it just as unplayable as the others :(. If someone could fix it or make a better, that would be great!!

Are you using real Cd drive or DTlite ? You have the same crash on all game ?

To make it working with mgalaxy.

1 - Dl ssf 0.12 beta R4
2 - DL and instal Daemontool lite (the light version)
3 - Configure Daemontool (I use DT driver not the SCSI one, lighter for system but not always compatible in some rare case)
4 - Configure SFF, (check the Cd drive)
5 -  Dl and extract this script in the same folder than ssf.exe and ssfa.exe  http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=436.0 (http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?topic=436.0)
6 - configure SFF in the configurator like usual (select in the combo "SSF (script + DTlite)"
7 - In the configurator check "use scrip file (if available)"

Remember to use the CUE file never the ISO or BIN one, for the rom.

Yeah I did all that, yet when I go into Mgalxy, it tries to load it then does nothing. Does the script file need to be compiled into an EXE? And I point Mgalaxy to the script, not the EXE right?

As for the crashing, it's random. Some times it crashes four or so times before it loads, other times it crashes if the game is idling and I just let it sit there. Some times it just works fine and no crashes.

On the bottom of the page you will have the script already compiled.

>> http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=39 (http://www.mgalaxy.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=39)

But I haven't idea for your SSF crashes.

For app path you need to select the normal executable, SFF.exe or SSFa.exe not the script, mGalaxy use it automatically if needed. And don't rename the script. All scripts have the same name mGalaxy_Script.au3 , you just need to put them in the emulator path if you need them, without changing something in the configurator (just check "use script file").

Ok I'm closer now.. But not close enough. Now it launches SSF in a window, not full screen (can't find the option to force full screen upon start). But wont auto mount the ISO to the Deamon Tools Lite virtual drive and auto load the program. Program just sits there and says "cd drive open".

Now it could be a pathing issue. But I don't see anywhere in the script to change location for DTL or virtual drive.. Or any other settings for that matter.

My DTL is at "C:\Program Files\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite", and my virtual drive is set to "E:\".

Thanks for all your help though!!

For fullscreen.
options/screen
Check  "strech screen" "full size" and perhaps "fixed fullscreen resolution". Press alt+Enter to go in Fullscreen mode and just exit, the next time, you will be in fullscreenmode.
But use fullscreen only when all is ok, windowed mode is better for test.

With this script, normaly you have nothing to do, it will search itself the dtlite path, and SSF find the Drive letter itself (from my memory).
If the script don't found DTLite, it display an error message and don't launch SSF. So I think this part is ok.

Have you configured dtlite ? create a new virtual drive DT.

To make a try, during the emulation, return to window and lanch dtlite, if all is ok you will see your rom loaded in the bottom window.

Remember to use always the CUE file.

Or make a try in stand alone mode, mount your rom in Dtlite and launch SFF.

In SSF in options/peripheral/Cd drive, I have DTsoft BDrom, I don't remeber if it s usefull.
I think it because you have used SCSI mode and me DT in DTlite configuration, it s not the same command line for the 2 mode.

On this screen.
1 arrow to create virtual drive (only 1 time is enought)
1 arrow to mount the selected image.
1 arrow for the resultat.

Sorry I m really bad to draw ^^.

Ok if I run Mgalaxy, start the game it loads the SSF program and sits. So then I open the directory with the ROMs and double click the ISO/CUE what ever, it loads the file into the virtual drive and the program (i.e. SSF) starts up the game. So like I said, the problem stems from the script file not mounting the file in the virtual drive.

Maybe this video will help.. Sadly I had to do this video three times, due to my wife constantly bothering me while I was recording. So I disabled sound. In the other two videos SSF crashed constantly. In the last video (i.e. this one), it hardly crashed, Go figure! And ignore the framerate, for some reason Camstudio is recording this like my laptop is running at a snails pace, but it's not. I don't have the time to waste sending this video to my desktop to use a real video editor to fix this! So just fast-forward through the video.

Also tried full screening just for the video and Camstudio spazed out on me, so it's windowed the whole time. Not that it's exciting either way..

Do you intend to post a "mGalaxy WTF" video on Youtube on each problem that YOU'll have while configuring your setup?

Lol, he is right, it's not good for the front end image, if a person making a search on youtube with "mGalaxy" see only video with bug ^^.

For the bug I see 2 possibilities.
1 - Same problem than this one you have with virtualboyadvance, so we will try to resolve this one first.
2 - A bug in the script, because it s not exactly the same command according the dtlite configuration.

Sorry I offended you, but the naming was an after thought. I thought the videos would help explain my issues better than just text. And the videos are unlisted, if you must know.

I'm sorry I seem to be the ONLY one having these issues.. This is a forum for helping others is it not??

Ok came up with a new game plan... Sadly it only works 100% outside of Mgalaxy.

I created a batch file that would mount any ISO to the virtual drive and call SSF EMU. Works great outside of Mgalaxy, but when I converted the batch file to an EXE and ran it inside Mgalaxy it tries to mount the ISO, and errors out for some odd reason before launching SSF. All the while hiding it behind the program (I have to exit out of Mgalaxy to see what's going on). Maybe you can come up with something..

Here is my batch file code:
Code: [Select]
@echo off

"C:\Program Files\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe -mount dt, 0, " & "%~1"
"C:\Program Files\Games\mGalaxy\EMU\Saturn\ssf.exe"

"C:\Program Files\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe" -unmount 0

It's simple yet gets the job done, but why doesn't it work within Mgalaxy?..

Otherwise there is a workaround..

I could set it up to kill Mgalaxy, mount the drive, run SSF. After exiting reverse all. It should work, but I would prefer not to have to go that route..

Code: [Select]
@echo off

TASKKILL /IM mGalaxy.exe /F

"C:\Program Files\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe -mount dt, 0, " & "%~1"
"C:\Program Files\Games\mGalaxy\EMU\Saturn\ssf.exe"

"C:\Program Files\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe" -unmount 0

"C:\Program Files\Games\mGalaxy\mGalaxy.exe"

Your thoughts?..
Title: Re: Note.rtf examples and ideas

I think I figured it out!!

Mgalaxy is trying to load the CUE file, not the ISO file. If I try to load the CUE file I get the same error. If I load the ISO, SSF loads fine. Can't believe I didn't try this before! Now,.. the million dollar question.. How do you get Mgalaxy to load the ISO and not the CUE file of the ROM?!?..

The easy way is to just rename all my ISOs the other way around, that seems to do the trick.. But is this the correct way?!? Will it cause something to go wrong in the future?

BTW, doing this also allows the scripts to work and no longer need a batch file.

Open the "Systems.xml" file (which is in the "Data" folder), find the "Sega Saturn" system and modify this line:
<Extensions>.cue</Extensions>
into
<Extensions>.iso</Extensions>

There is still a problem, the correct way to load an image is by the cue, never the iso/bin.
Open your cue file with notepad and look if paths inside are good.

For me ATM, I wait for your bug with script are solved before making other tries on others system.

Thank you!! This bit of information has gotten my problems taken care of!! Both the Saturn and GBA EMU now work! You put the extension for all the other EMUs, except for GBA! It just had ZIP, not ZIP and GBA extensions. Now everything works. I thought that was weird since all my other EMUs (minus MAME) are unzipped in the ROM folders. LOL that's so crazy this one file was causing all my headaches ;)!
