Title: 5.2 No theme
Post by: Daz1337 on January 19, 2014, 07:25:56 AM
Just installed MG 5.2, it was a clean install using the new %APPDATA% position for data, configured in Runway and saved. Went to run and all i get is "Error while loading your interface theme." wondering how i install the theme i paid for too? Buried in the ~/AppData/Local/mGalaxy/mGalaxy.exe_Url_25ykrtlen1jpgy5jn001ryt4b1jvmncx/5.0.0.0/ is one file... user.config. Any clues?

If you tell me that you've done a clean install (with no other mgalaxy folder present on hard drive) you should have indeed a "AppData/Roaming/mGalaxy/UI Themes" folder with 'Base.mgt' & 'Base_Vertical' (+ the corresponding .png files) inside.
Correct? You do have have those files?

If yes, you should see them in mGalaxy_Runway too!
Can you see those 2 themes in mGalaxy_Runway?

Now, if you're talking of a "Supporter's Edition" theme not working (but you should see it in the theme selector anyway!!):
You're supposed to download this theme again (it has been updated to support new additions)

Clean install was after i uninstalled MGalaxy 1st.
Yes the base files are in the UI Themes folder.....

C:\Users\Home\AppData\Roaming\mGalaxy\_UI Themes>dir /b
Base.mgt
Base.png
Base_Vertical.mgt
Base_Vertical.png
Blue.mgt
Blue.png

But there are no themes in my theme selector (Base or blue),
Im guessing this is why i get the error why i run mGalaxy?
[attached a snap shot of Runway Others]

Cheers, Darren.

The only reason I can see is that there's still a 'Data' folder into the main 'ProgramFiles (x86)/mGalaxy' folder. Please check that!

Have you read the 'mg_history.rtf' file?
Here is what it's written inside:

Quote
Install option: you now can choose where your ‘mGalaxy Data’ folder should be installed.
By default - and to conform to Microsoft security policy - it’ll be installed in the ApplicationData folder:
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\mGalaxy (on Win 7)
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data (on Win XP)
This ensure the best application compatibility.

You can choose to install it inside the mGalaxy folder itself. This will make mGalaxy "Portable".
In that case - and to avoid write permission problems - choose an install folder you can write to (so avoid c:\Program Files or whatever Microsoft renamed it to)

Note:
 - mGalaxy will check in both places if it can find a data folder but will use the one in the install dir as a priority.
- This folder isn’t erased during un-installation or update to preserve your saved data (favorites, system settings,…). So, if you had first chosen to install it inside the mGalaxy application folder and make up your mind later, remember to delete it manually or it’ll continue to be used by mGalaxy.

I can confirm i deleted the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\mGalaxy' folder after the uninstall finished.

There is no 'Data' folder in the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\mGalaxy' folder.....

C:\Program Files (x86)\mGalaxy>dir /b
Interop.WMPLib.dll
Ionic.Zip.dll
mGalaxy.exe
mGalaxy.exe.config
mGalaxy.url
mGalaxy_Data.lnk   <---------- *
mGalaxy_Runway.exe
mg_history.rtf
SharpDX.dll
SharpDX.XInput.dll
uninst.exe

* There is a 'mGalaxy_Data' short cut that takes you to....

C:\Users\Home\AppData\Roaming\mGalaxy
[Dir output is listed in the previous post]

Ive now uninstalled it all, plus deleted the MGalaxy folders in both the Local & Roaming AppData folders, also deleted the MGalaxy folder in the 'Program Files (x86)' directory. Reinstalled and
Working now i selected to install the data file to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\mGalaxy\Data'
So the recommended option isn't so recommended after all.

Perhaps that's not working for you...but the default install path is the best way to ensure that there's no write access error (that may occur otherwise)
Would you mind making this last test and tell me what happens?

1) Rename the 'Data' foler inside the '.../Program Files/mGalaxy' folder to 'Data_Old'
2) Open 'C:/Users/Home/AppData/Roaming', create a 'mGalaxy' folder if it doesn't exist.
3) Copy the content of '.../Program Files/mGalaxy/Data_Old' to 'C:/Users/Home/AppData/Roaming/mGalaxy'

Launch mGalaxy, then mGalaxy_Runway.
Thanks

Just tried your experiment above....

both mGalaxy & the runway run with no problem.

Couple of things i have noticed and worth a mention....
In order for even the base theme to work i have to run as administrator or i get a error theme and wont load.
Also I cant use my old supporters addition blue theme (no games get listed).

Cheers, Darren.
